Daffodils bloom on the Island of San Roque (22/04/2015)
The protected species Narcissus pseudonarcissus subsp. nobilis was seen blooming on the Island of San Roque (Rábade, Outeiro de Rei; Lugo) when the Galician LIFE+ TREMEDAL project sites were visited in March. This species of daffodil is listed as Vulnerable in the Galician Catalogue of Endangered Species and considered of Community interest in the European Directive on the conservation of habitats and species, the Habitats Directive.
The species can be found in different environments on the Island of San Roque, such as its alluvial woodland and meadows. Both its size and flower are worthy of note at this time of the year, between the end of winter and the start of spring. Improvement and conservation work is being performed on the habitats favoured by the species on this island on the River Miño as part of the LIFE+ TREMEDAL project.
