The characteristics of the flora and the origin of the water point towards <b>oligotrophic<\/b> conditions.<br \/>\nThere are two levels of sandstone scree, between which sit flat areas with shallow peat substratum, with the exception of one area at the foot of the first level of scree which has 45 cm of peat consisting of the remains of sphagnum. In the area with the deepest peat deposit, there are small mounds measuring 25-40 cm with bilberries and <em>Sphagnum spp<\/em>.<br \/>\nVery wet heathland, with mounds measuring 20-30 cm high, currently with <em>Leucobryum glaucum<\/em>, grows on the second level of scree.<\/p>\n<dl class=\"accordion\"><dt>MOST IMPORTANT VALUES<\/dt><dd><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Uniqueness<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThis is only clearly ombrogenous site detected in Navarre.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Biological and ecological values<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIn terms of flora, the most notable presence when it comes to bryophytes is that of <em>Lophozia incisa<\/em><em>,<\/em> a new bryophyte in the Navarrese catalogue; the area also has the second largest population of <em>Kurzia trichoclados<\/em> in Navarre and a relatively abundant presence of <em>Racomitrium lanuginosum<\/em>, an Atlantic aerohygrophilous moss.<br \/>\nAs far as vascular plants and habitats are concerned, it should be pointed out that the area has lost a great deal of interest due to fire clearance.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Historical and paleoecological values<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe peat-forming habitats at the Xuriain site do not possess significant deposits from a paleoecological point of view<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Habitats of Community Interest<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<table width=\"100%\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"98\"><strong>H\u00e1bitat<\/strong><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"336\"><strong>Nombre<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"98\">4030<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"336\">Brezales secos europeos<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"98\">6230*<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"336\">Formaciones herbosas con\u00a0<em>Nardus<\/em>, con numerosas especies, sobre sustratos sil\u00edceos de zonas monta\u00f1osas (y de zonas submonta\u00f1osas de la Europa continental)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Flora<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThere are old citations of <em>Huperzia selago<\/em> and <em>Trichophorum caespitosum subsp. germanicum<\/em> at the summit of Xuriain, but their presence has not been verified recently.<br \/>\n20 species of vascular plants and 16 bryophyte species have been recorded.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Fauna<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe presence of fauna specific to peatlands and mires has not been registered.<\/p>\n<\/dd><dt>PHOTOS<\/dt><dd><p><div id=\"attachment_264\" style=\"width: 386px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-264\" class=\"size-full wp-image-264\" alt=\"Vista general del enclave de Zuriain (P.
